What separates us from the rest?

At Salem Glass, we understand that construction isn’t rocket science. There’s no secret Coca-Cola formula or patented magic. We all price projects competitively, sign similar contracts, and face the same compressed schedules. What truly sets Salem Glass apart isn’t a gimmick — it’s the consistency and discipline of how we operate. We call it The Salem Glass Way.

The Salem Glass Way is our internal service delivery model—developed over decades and built on a foundation of structure, accountability, and communication. It’s not about hitting home runs—it’s about steady, repeatable execution. We’ve created a system that reinforces itself, where each element supports the next to ensure seamless project delivery. From proposal to closeout, we focus on proactive coordination, transparency, and trust.

This system includes a series of tightly managed internal workflows: weekly project management meetings, detailed turnover sessions, standardized engineering formats, and regular company-wide check-ins. Every team—project management, engineering, fabrication, and field—is aligned through structured weekly and monthly meetings, keeping schedules tight and communication sharp.

We also leverage custom-built technology. Our proprietary software, The Salem Glass Assistant, tracks and coordinates everything we do—estimates, drawings, submittals, fabrication logs, field updates, and more. It’s purpose-built for how we work and helps us maintain a high level of control and visibility at every stage.

Consistency is a cornerstone of our approach. That includes long-term partnerships with trusted vendors like Kawneer—who we’ve worked with since 1948, making us their oldest continuous dealer. We prioritize vendor familiarity because well-trained teams using known systems improve labor efficiency, reduce risk, and deliver better outcomes.

We apply that same consistency to our customers. We don’t chase every job, product, or market segment. Instead, we focus on a select group of repeat clients—partners we know well and serve with intention. Our tracking systems allow us to analyze project performance and customer data in real time. That data-driven approach, combined with relationship-based values, makes us a reliable, low-risk partner.

Our culture is built on feedback and accountability. From “How are we doing?” emails and customer surveys to post-mortems and jobsite walks, we measure success by how we execute—and where we can improve. We also maintain a strong safety culture through monthly all-hands training and biweekly site evaluations, ensuring every team member is prepared and protected.

At the end of the day, what our customers experience isn’t just process—it’s a feeling. A feeling that Salem Glass is ahead of the project, solving problems before they arise, communicating with purpose, and keeping things moving. We may not always be the lowest price, but we are consistently the lowest total cost.

That’s the Salem Glass Way

How it all started

On August 29, 1929, in historic Salem, Massachusetts, Saul Goldberg—known fondly as “Mr. G”—sold his broken-down car and opened a small corner glass shop: Salem Plate & Window Glass Co. (later renamed and incorporated as Salem Glass Company).
Having learned the glazing trade from his father and inspired by his two older brothers’ success running glass businesses in Washington, D.C., Saul set up shop at 10 Margin Street. With $100 borrowed from his new bride, Ruth—“Mrs. G”—and her promise to handle bookkeeping and office management after a full day’s work at Perkins Cleaners, the Goldbergs set off on a true entrepreneurial adventure.
Just weeks before the 1929 stock market crash and the start of the Great Depression, Saul and Ruth took a leap of faith—leaning on hard work, family, and determination to keep the business going through uncertain times.
From those modest beginnings, built on resilience, trust, and commitment, the foundation was laid for what would become one of New England’s most enduring and respected glazing contractors.
